Better visuals are the 'gene' of PlayStation according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment's worldwide studios. His comment came in an interview with Kotaku in which he discussed the company's failings with the PSP and how it's looking to do better with the PS Vita.
Talking about the original PSP Yoshida commented that the company "looked back on PSP, what we did right and what we didn't do right with the platform. We were too happy with ourselves, having a PS2-like experience on a portable at that time. We didn't go too much further from there."
The PSP, according to Yoshida made gamers feel compromised when playing in comparison to PS2 and PS3, due to the smaller screen and single analogue stick. This is something Sony wants to overcome with the PS Vita, which offers two analogue sticks, a bigger screen and dual touch panels. Visuals still matter a lot though.
"Of course, we wanted to offer better visuals," Yoshida added. "That's the 'gene' of PlayStation."
